About Us

Several years ago, I decided to get my PMP® Certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI).  I didn’t go to a week long boot camp.  I didn’t take any shortcuts.  All I did was study, study, study.

As part of the preparation process, I did purchase a few study materials.  My total out-of-pocket for materials was about $500.  Compared to $3,000 for a boot camp, I thought it was a good deal.

So, where did the idea of a flashcard engine come from?  Pain-points!  First, I had to write out all of the questions and answers on index cards.  Second, I had to carry around this deck of cards, actually dropping them once and losing some of the cards. Third, I couldn’t visualize my progress.  The best I could do was go through the deck and stack viewed cards on my desk into three piles:  Correct, Incorrect, and Skip.

Pain-point 1: Writing out Q/A on index cards

Pain-point 2: Carrying around a large deck of cards

Pain-point 3: Visualizing progress

Since then, mobile computing has really taken off.  The Apple iPod Touch and iPhone have created a platform which can handle an application to convert the old fashioned paper index cards into a single digital deck.  Additionally, a simple interface could be created to provide feedback to user at any time.  By creating a web application, accessible from multiple platforms, you can study where you want and when you want, not worrying if you lost any cards or what your progress is.

HueCubed and PMPrepFlashCards were created to help people looking to get their PMP certification study for the exam and not break the bank.
